Are America’s Best Days Behind Us?

Time Magazine has a fascinating article by one of my favorite authors, Fareed Zakaria, asking if America’s best days have passed. Fareed believes this is a distinct possibility as the government seems to be unwilling to make any tough decisions and in it’s desire to cut the deficit while neither raising taxes nor cutting entitlement programs is in fact cutting everything that has made America great. The US rose to prominence on constant investment in the future by investing in innovation, education and infrastructure. All of these are the low hanging fruit which are being targeted in the budget debate. If America stops focusing in these areas it will not be able to remain as competitive in the future and further struggle to stay competitive with ‘the rest’.
